My little man is growing up so much. I can't believe he's already 5 months old (yesterday!). For his 5-mo mark, I decided to give him some pears, his first solid other than rice and oatmeal. It was fun to reach yet another milestone, but it saddens me to think how quickly these past 5 months have passed and how it somehow forshadows our life with the kids. I can't believe Mal will be 2 in a couple of weeks...
Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to have a "go" at making Ethan's baby food rather than continue with store-bought. It's not that I'm opposed to it, I just think it would better for him, cheaper, and fun to make. This evening, I spent about an hour an a half steaming and roasting veggies and fruit and then processing them into a puree to put into ice cube trays for future use. I made about weeks worth of food for about $2 and not much time. And I had a good time doing it! Patrick had left to hang out with a friend and the kids were asleep, so it was just me, the food, small kitchen appliances, and my radio. It was relaxing yet fulfilling at the same time. I'd like to continue...maybe it can become a Sunday night ritual? I dunno...we'll see.

I did that with Isaiah's food and it really paid off....he ate a TON! It looks like your little man might have a healthy appetite too! Definitely a money saver. And that picture could pass as a baby picture of you...those eyes!
He's so cute!
This is a huge money-saver. I found it didn't take that much time if I just did it during my regular dinner prep...once or twice a week I'd steam or boil a couple of things and puree it, then let it cool while we were eating dinner and stick it in the freezer after dinner.
Look at those legs! And the blue eyes!
I used to freeze the homemade baby foods in the previously used baby food jars I'd saved. ...It seems like SOOO long ago that I did that! A year and a half flies by, huh?
Love it! Hey, where did you find Del Monte baby food? :)
Actually, that food was given to me by a lady at church. I haven't bought any baby food yet. But, I believe our Food City sells Del Monte. Wal Mart used to sell it, but no more. I haven't shopped for baby food in a while...
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement on home-made foods. Thanks for accentuating the positives... :-)
Unfortunately, my boys never liked homeade baby food. I had fun making the food for them though, lol.
I love his eyes!
I made Alison's babyfood for a few months. I did buy jarred stuff of a few things that I just didn't have access too. It all ended when I went to my in-laws for a week and we used all jared stuff. I then turned lazy and went back to the prepared goods! At least I breastfed for 15 months!
